Dr. Laura Carravallah

Core Competency Clerkship Director, Hurley Medical Center

Dr. Carravallah received her M.D. degree from MSU College of Human Medicine and completed her clinical curriculum on the Flint Campus. She liked it so much that she stayed to complete a combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Dr. Carravallah is currently the Program Director of the Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatric residency at Hurley Medical Center in Flint and is the Community Clerkship Director for Core Competency. Her main areas of research interest are prevention of gun injuries and innovations in primary care education.


Dr. Jami Foreback

Internal Medicine Clerkship Director, McLaren-Flint

Dr. Foreback received her M.D. and Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Michigan. Dr. Foreback also participated in OMERAD Faculty Development Fellowship Program at Michigan State University. Dr. Foreback is currently the Community Clerkship Co-director for Internal Medicine. One of her areas of research interest is in residency research education.

Dr. Melissa Hamp

Pediatric Clerkship Director, Hurley Medical Center

Dr. Hamp received both her B.S. and M.D. from Duke University and also graduated with a M.P.H. from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Hamp currently serves as the Community Clerkship Director for the Pediatric Clerkship and the Program Director of the Pediatrics residency program at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. She is interested in adolescent medicine and has done research in medical education and sexually transmitted diseases.


Dr. John Hebert III

Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship Director, Hurley Medical Center

Dr. Hebert received his M.D. degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. He then complete his Obstetrics and Gynecology resident at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. Dr. Hebert is currently the Community Clerkship Director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship as well as the Chairman and Program Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Hurley Medical Center. Dr. Hebert has done research on the effects of drugs to reduce postoperative pain in laparoscopic surgery.


Dr. Kavitha Kesari

Advanced Medicine Clerkship Co-Director, McLaren-Flint

Dr. Kesari graduated from Andhra University, Rangaraya Medical College, India, in 1993. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Mclaren Regional Medical Center from July 1996 through June 1999, serving as Chief Resident during her third year. Dr. Kesari is currently the Community Clerkship Co-Director for the Advanced Medicine Clerkship.


Dr. Hussein Mazloum

Junior Sugery Clerkship Director

Dr. Mazloum received his M.D. degree from the American University of Beriut and completed his surgical residency at Stamford Hospital/Columbia University of Physicians and Surgeons. He took a fellowship in Trauma surgery and Critical Care at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and Ryder Trauma Center. Dr. Mazloum serves as the Community Clerkship Director for the Junior Surgery Clerkship. He has done research in the reliability of CT scan and ultrasound guided pancreatic biopsy.


Dr. Rob Molnar

Senior Surgery Clerkship Director, McLaren-Flint

Dr. Molnar graduated from the Medical College of Ohio, in 1991 He did an internship at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan in 1991. He then completed his residency at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, from 1992 through 1997 . Dr. Molnar took over the Senior Surgery clerkship at the beginning of May. He is also in charge of the combined surgery residency program, coordinating the residents who work both at McLaren-Flint and Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.


Dr. Kay Taylor

CA/AM and Research Elective Director, Hurley Medical Center

After completing a B.S. in psychology at the University of Michigan, Dr. Kay Taylor received her Ph.D. in psychology from Michigan State University. Dr. Taylor coordinates Critical Analysis and Analytical Medicine for third year students and serves as a reviewer for Academic Medicine and Psychology, Health and Medicine. Her main areas of research interest include primary prevention practices, the recruitment of high-risk persons into community screening programs, substance abuse, child maltreatment, and graduate medical education.


Dr. Basim Towfiq

Internal Medicine Clerkship Co-Director, Hurley Medical Center

Dr. Towfiq received his M.D. degree from Mosul Medical College, Mosul, Iraq and main training in U.K. He then completed an internal medicine residency at Hurley Medical Center. Dr. Towfiq is currently the Director for Ambulatory Medicine at Hurley Medicine Center in Flint, is an Associate Professor for MSU, and is the Community Clerkship Co-director for Internal Medicine.


Dr. Barbara Wolf

Psychiatry Clerkship Director, McLaren-Flint

Dr. Wolf received her doctorate from the Union Institute and completed a two year post-doctoral fellowship in Primary Care Health Psychology at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine/Genesys Regional Medical Center. Dr. Wolf serves as the Community Clerkship Director for the Psychiatry Clerkship. Her areas of professional interest include women's mental health issues, dissociative disorders, mindfulness mediation, and medical education.


Dr. Ken Yokosawa

Family Practice Clerkship Director, Genesys Regional Medical Center

Dr. Yokosawa received his B.S. from Illinois Benedictine College and received his M.D., completing basic sciences at the American University of the Caribbean and clinical clerkships at London Hospital medical College. Dr. Yokosawa completed his Family Practice residency at St. Joseph Hospital, Flint, Michigan, and also completed a Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship through Michigan State University. Dr. Yokosawa is currently the Community Clerkship Director for the Family Practice Clerkship and serves as the program Director of the Family Practice Residency program at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Dr. Yokosawa has done numerous workshops on Suture and Wound Closure and has presented topics on Family Practice Medical Education at several medical schools in Kurashiki, Japan.
